Gallery Keoki Annual Celebrity Hound Hobnob
Join us at Gallery Keoki’s Annual Celebrity Hound Hobnob, a fundraiser for the Palisades Avalanche Dog Team. The evening will include a raffle and silent auction items, and the newest Palisades Avalanche Dog T-Shirts will be on sale.
“We are happy that Gallery Keoki is once again hosting this great event. It’s our best fundraising event of the season and we all look forward to it,” - Ivan McGurk, Dog Handler and Ski Patrol Supervisor, Palisades Tahoe.
The Avalanche Rescue Dog program was established in the 1980s and was comprised of one dog and one handler. From these humble beginnings the dog program has grown over the years and has had as many as ten active dogs on the hill. Palisades Tahoe adopted the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) training standard in 2001. Every winter since that time the dog team has proudly organized and hosted an Avalanche Rescue Dog Seminar for dogs and handlers. We are very pleased that patrollers and their dogs from all over the United States attend this weeklong school. The dog program currently has five validated dogs. The primary goal of the dog program is to be able to staff dog teams on the lower and upper mountain during storm cycles and times of high avalanche hazard.
Our dogs provide a service not only to the Palisades Tahoe skiing and riding community, but to the greater Lake Tahoe community, as well. All of our dog teams are also members of the Placer County Sheriff Search & Rescue Tahoe Dogs Team. At any moment of the day our dogs may be responding
to a possible avalanche incident in and around the greater Lake Tahoe area.
We look forward to seeing you at Palisades Tahoe this winter and don’t be surprised if a four-legged friend in uniform joins you for a chair ride.
