Race Descriptions

KID'S RACE

The event is $15 and there is no price increase on race weekend.

The course will be easy and fun, and children of all ages are welcome to participate, although we ask little ones under six years old have a parent accompanying them. Please note that the event is not timed, and while we don't give out awards, all participants will receive a finisher medal and swag. The race will begin at the start line of the Vertical Kilometer, ascend a short hill, and circle back down on easy service roads through the finish line chute.

Registration will be available throughout the weekend, as well as on race morning.


11K COURSE
The price for the 11k is $90.

The course for the Broken Arrow 11K starts from the European arch in front of Coffeebar in the heart of the Palisades Tahoe Village. After the start gun runners head through the Village and east up single track trails along the Western States trail toward CA Highway 89. After 2 miles the course exits onto a dirt two-track that heads up and over Knob Hill and then up to the top of Snow King Peak.Runners will then travel back down a ~1 mile steep ~730 ft. descent to the village to the finish.

Please note that participants must be 14 years of age or older to run the 11k.


18K Course
The price for the 18k is $110.

The new 18k will begin, like most distances, under the European arch in front of Coffeebar. It ascends an initial climb similar to that of the VK, at which point the course gains the prominent, exposed and stunningly beautiful Red Dog Ridge. Along the ridge, runners are treated to unique views of the emerald waters of Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America, if they can pull their eyes from the imposing and exposed ridge. From here the course tips even more vertically, with runners ascending the steep headwall of KT-22, made famous by the extreme skiers of Palisades Tahoe.

Please note that you must be 16 years of age or older to run the 18k.


VERTICAL KILOMETER "VK" COURSE
The Broken Arrow Vertical Kilometer or "VK" is slated for Friday, June 21, 2024 at 9:30am. The price for the VK is $90.

The VK covers some of Palisade Tahoe’s most iconic terrain in a short, steep, and physically demanding sprint. From the valley floor, runners will ascend over 3,000 feet in a mere 3 miles to the summit of 9,000-foot Washeshu Peak. In true Skyrunner fashion, the course begins on steep terrain, ascends technical off-trail talus, and finishes on an exposed ridge line. The Headwall ridge is the most iconic portion of the race, complete with stunning views of Lake Tahoe, a bolted hand line, and the infamous "Stairway to Heaven" ladder to the top of Washeshu Peak.

The Vertical Kilometer course will contain steep slabs of rock, potential snow slopes, scree and exposure. This is not your average trail run...and is one you will remember forever! We also encourage hikers to join this party. You won't be disappointed by an absolutely stunning section of Palisades Tahoe's most extreme terrain.

Please note that participants must be 14 years of age or older to run the VK course.


23K COURSE

The price for the 23k is $140.

The Broken Arrow 23K covers a world-class loop that showcases some of Palisades Tahoe's most famous terrain. From the valley floor at 6200 feet, runners will ascend nearly 5,000 feet as they circumnavigate the heralded terrain of North America's most rugged and extreme ski resort. The course is characterized by a plethora of vertical gain over a technical and physically demanding landscape that is mostly above treeline.

Along the way, runners will be treated to numerous iconic California trail running landmarks. These include Emigrant Pass (elevation 8750 feet), made famous by the Western States 100 Endurance Run, the jagged terrain of KT-22, unrivaled views into Granite Chief Wilderness and a the famous Stairway to Heaven ladder, featured on the cover of UltraRunning Magazine!

Please note that you must be 16 years of age or older to run the 23K.


46K COURSE

The price for the 46k is $190.

The Broken Arrow 46K covers a world-class loop (twice!) that showcases some of Palisade Tahoe's most famous terrain. From the valley floor at 6,200 feet, runners will ascend nearly 5,300 feet as they circumnavigate the heralded terrain of North America's most rugged and extreme ski resort. The course is characterized by a plethora of vertical gain over a technical and physically demanding landscape that is mostly above treeline.

Along the way, runners will be treated to numerous iconic California trail running landmarks. These include Emigrant Pass (elevation 8,750 feet), made famous by the Western States 100 Endurance Run, the jagged terrain of KT-22, unrivaled views into Granite Chief Wilderness and a the famous Stairway to Heaven ladder!
